Project R.E.A.D - REGULATE
As part of the 12th Edition of RCGC's signature literacy project, Read Everyday And Discover (READ), Central brought parents and educators into the conversation around inclusive learning, sensory regulation and literacy development.
The project began with the adoption and set-up of the Sensory Room at the David Rose Special Needs School, creating a dedicated space designed to support learning, interaction and regulation. The Club worked to enhance the space with resources and materials that could provide students with a more engaging and supportive environment. Building on the room adoption, Rotaractors also engaged directly with the students through interactive, in-person sessions. These included literacy games, educational activities and opportunities for creative expression and participation, allowing the project to extend beyond the physical space and into meaningful engagement with the children themselves.
The second phase of Project R.E.A.D. – Regulate expanded the conversation to the adults who play an important role in supporting children. Through a virtual session for parents and educators, participants explored sensory regulation, strategies for improving literacy skills, and practical approaches that can be applied both at home and in the classroom.
Together, these activities created a project that addressed inclusion from multiple perspectives, creating a supportive space, engaging children through learning and play, and equipping parents and educators with practical tools to support them.
Through Project R.E.A.D., the Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central continues to advocate for learning environments where every child has the opportunity to learn, explore, communicate, express themselves and thrive.
